Trip Down the Rabbit-Hole
“The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well.”
-Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll
Never said better! This month we found ourselves rummaging through an old mansion in downtown Columbus (Ohio) looking to provide Internet connectivity between an office suite and conference room no more than 200’ apart. Sounds simple…right?
Experience as technology professionals has taught us that no two projects, regardless of technologies used and similarities in implementations are the same. In this case, we found ourselves toning cable, scurrying to find attics and basements, and tracing color codes only to discover that the end of the proverbial “rabbit-hole” led to a separate building owned by a completely different entity. Undeterred, we were not only able to find a path (just over 200’ by the way) to provide the needed Internet connectivity, but we also found several reusable parts along the way that saved us time and our client money. Take that, Mr. Carroll!
